Villa Spotlight: Seaside Haven

If you want to be lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves and enjoy beautiful sea views from the moment you awaken, our stunning and exclusive Seaside Haven villa offers you the perfect place to stay with the ocean right on your doorstep.

From humble beginnings as a fisherman’s cottage, this villa in Bakoven was developed into a spectacular property with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a swimming pool by the sea.

On the entrance level, you’ll find an open plan kitchen, living and dining area, with seating for up to eight people and full length windows giving you amazing views of the ocean. On this level you’ll also find the second bedroom and a study which can, on request, be converted into a third bedroom.

On the lower level you’ll find the stunning master bedroom and open bathroom; an opulent double bed next to a gas fire, with the windows and the ocean at your feet and behind, an oval bath and huge double shower. Stackable glass doors open out onto the swimming pool deck and a small garden, with the ocean just beyond. From the comfort of your heated plunge pool, you can enjoy the stunning sunsets of Cape Town in complete luxury.

Bakoven itself is something of an undiscovered secret; although the beach here is small, it’s a secluded patch of sand tucked between the boulders where you can escape the crowds and enjoy the South African sun. Bakoven leads on into the popular Camps Bay area, and you’ll find plenty of bars, restaurants and shops within ten minutes’ walk of the property.

Cape Town itself is within easy reach, just ten minutes’ drive away, or you can head in the other direction towards the popular beaches of Llandudno. Nearby, you’ll also find the spectacular Table Mountain national park and the Oudekraal nature reserve, meaning that there is always plenty to see and do close by.

The dramatic currents and depths mean it is a favourite with experienced divers that are looking for the exhilarating next step in their diving experiences.

It is when you start to plan a diving holiday that a villa really starts to show itself as the wisest choice as the average diver doesn’t exactly travel light. A quick look at a basic diver kit list highlights the need for the extra space that a villa provides;

  • BCD

This is just the first six items that you will pack and doesn’t include other items such as a line cutter, weight belt or any spares that you will want to take along with you. One thing that is worth bearing in mind before exploring the South African depths is that there is a huge range of unique wildlife; it is wise to at least be accompanied by a local guide.

If diving is perhaps not your forte then there are literally hundreds of other ways that you can eke out every grain of enjoyment from this incredible coastline. Animals not to miss on your South African Safari

South African wildlife is some of the most dramatic and diverse on the entire planet and thousands of tourists every year flock to South Africa to view these incredible animals in their natural habitat. Here at 360 Escapes Villas we have an incredible range of South Africa villas that provide the best possible platform from which you can explore this incredible wildlife for yourself.

In this article we have put together a short list of animals that you will not want to miss when you pay this incredible region a visit;

The Lion

One of the most incredibly powerful and elegant animals in the world, the lion is a powerhouse of muscle, fur, teeth and claws and draws admiration from all who witness them. There is just something about the raw power and aggression that lions show during the hunt that makes them utterly mystifying. Seeing these big cats in a zoo can simply never compare to seeing them from a safari bus in their natural habitat.

Interesting fact about lions

They are anatomically identical to the tiger and only the appearance of their fur separates them, there have even been cross-breeds between the two species known as Ligers.

Somehow these 18 feet animals manage to carry such grace and beauty that they captivate people for entire lifetimes. With their awkward dimensions, beautiful patterning as well as their naturally calm temperament they really are one of the natural jewels of Africa. Whilst on your safari you will want to keep a constant eye out for a head popping up above the trees and be ready with the camera for that shot of a lifetime.

Interesting fact about Giraffes

A giraffes spots are like human fingerprints, no two animals will have the exact same pattern.

Now a protected species these wonderfully robust and gigantic animals provide the exact opposite to the aforementioned giraffe’s grace. The African elephant is the largest land mammal on earth and is the epitome of brute force and power. It is easy to see these creatures as the simple battering ram of the animal world but they are actually an incredibly complex species that form sophisticated matriarchal groups.

Interesting fact about Elephants

Elephants are one of the few species other than humans that can be observed to mourn the death of one of their species. Even rival herds of elephants will gather around the body to say a touching farewell.

The Nile Crocodile

This living dinosaur is one for all of the reptile lovers out there and really represents one of the most perfect evolutionary designs in the animal kingdom. Crocodiles have been around since dinosaurs walked the earth and have literally not changed since. Seeing them basking on the banks of a river or what looks like just a head floating along the river is sure to get a few pulses racing. Although their name would suggest they are a North African species, they are found throughout huge swathes of Africa.

Interesting fact about crocodiles

Crocodiles have a bite strength of around 3,700 PSI, to put that into perspective, the average human bite strength is 120 PSI.

The zebra is a must for any lover of horses as they are a relative of the common horse that inhabits a field near you. The most apparent difference is that wonderful coat; the beautiful striped pattern is one to look out for and you will certainly want to get a nice picture of one of these for the mantelpiece. A powerful zoom lens will be a must though as these animals are very easily spooked and you may struggle to get close.

Interesting fact about Zebras

Zebras can run up to 65kmh and couple this with incredible stamina and agility which makes them a surprisingly hard target for predators such as lions.

So if you are planning a safari holiday in South Africa then be sure to try your best to tick off these 5 amazing animals whilst you’re there. If you need any further help with booking your holiday then feel free to contact us and our dedicated staff will be happy to help.

South Africa Acclaimed by Emirates as Top Holiday Destination

According to THISDAY, one of the most respected newspaper publications in Nigeria, airline giant Emirates have named two locations in South Africa among their most desirable passenger destinations. Both Johannesburg and Cape Town have been honoured in this respect, although the entirety of this beautiful country has also been hailed as a destination of true distinction.

The strength of South Africa as a tourist hot-spot undoubtedly comes from its stunning natural beauty. As mentioned, the whole country is a veritable jewel in this respect, but Johannesburg and Cape Town have clearly been noted to excel. Johannesburg is a bustling metropolis that ranks as the second most populous city in all of Africa, and in recent years it has become a thriving haunt for tourists to frequent. Not traditionally known as a destination place, the popularity of Johannesburg has come about due to its status as a city where international visitors often have to ‘pass through’, and despite its almost ‘accidental’ status as a  tourist city Johannesburg has risen to the label with aplomb.

The city is alive with history, including many museums that have attained a prominent status within South Africa as a whole. Numerous options for art, amusement parks and a vibrant shopping centre are also available, and the city serves as an admirable base for those wishing to view African wildlife. The Cradle of Humankind – a notable World Heritage Site – is very near to the city as well, so seeing it named as an Emirates favourite is certainly no surprise.  Just as understandable is the presence of Cape Town on this list, and this city – the second most populous in South Africa, behind Johannesburg – is nestled in a region of the Cape where the natural flora is renowned for being especially unique.

One of only six regions of the equivalent type in the world, the Cape region around Cape Town is home to more than 9,000 plant species, and almost 70 % of this assemblage cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Also famous for the enormous harbour, as well as the proximity of Table Mountain and Cape Point, Cape Town certainly has every base covered in terms of outstanding natural beauty. The urban centre is a similarly fantastic location to spend time though, as the architectural heritage is globally admired, and the unique infrastructure allows a tourist to visit several individually distinct beaches all in the space of one day. With many other cultural and shopping attractions all present, and a colourful array of alternative entertainments too, there is little wonder why Cape Town actually ranks as Africa’s most popular international destination place.

At 360 Escapes, we’ve long been aware of the manifold advantages brought by a holiday in South Africa. We have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Cape Town and the surrounding areas, and so we are ideally placed to help you to plan your perfect South African holiday. Our self catering accommodation in South Africa is designed to give you the best possible accommodation to complement your trip of a lifetime, and at the most competitive of prices as well. The Benefits of a Self Catering Villa

Self catering is often seen as a more difficult choice than simply going all-inclusive or staying in a hotel. Here at 360 Escapes, we believe that a self catering villa holiday offers the ultimate holiday that is flexible and exciting in equal measure. In this blog, we have outlined some of the main areas in which one of our options for self catering accommodation in Cape Town (and other areas of South Africa) would be the perfect holiday for you.

Space and privacy

One thing that comes at a real premium in a hotel is space; rooms are designed to be as compact and spatially efficient as possible, and therefore the space that you end up with is inevitably limited. In a villa, you have far more control over the size of the property and the room sizes. Villas are generally built as places where people can live, and are therefore far more practical. This makes them perfect for larger families that want separate rooms, but do not want to have to reserve separate hotel rooms to allow this.

The food

The choice of food when staying all-inclusive in a hotel is often very restricted and the meal times are set; this rather goes against the idea of a relaxing holiday, and feels far too structured to be enjoyable. With a villa, you can choose your own meal times and eat exactly what you want. South Africa is renowned for its unique cuisine, and there are certain famous South African meals that you really won’t want to miss out on.

The character

How many hotels out there have real genuine character? Not many. Those that do have character certainly seem to charge extra for it. The rooms in a hotel are all very much the same; clinical and characterless…and that’s no bad thing if you are only spending one night in them. When you want to spend a decent amount of time in a place though, it really helps if it is a comfortable and soothing place to be. Villas in general were once used as homes, and therefore have been built to be comfortable places to spend long periods of time, and they are sure to be perfect for the whole family.

These are just the first three reasons why it helps to choose a villa and self catering for your holiday, and there are hundreds more that we could list. If you need any more convincing then feel free to take a look at some of our villas and let the incredible views and beautiful accommodation put you at ease.

A Summer Holiday in Cape Town

It is coming to the time of the year when you should start thinking about booking your summer holiday. There are many beautiful places you can visit in South Africa that have endless beaches, fantastic weather and blue water. If you would like to experience a holiday with a difference, then we strongly suggest you visit Cape Town, as it has plenty for you to see and do.

Table Mountain

If you are the adventurous type who is partial to hiking, then it is well worth visiting Table Mountain. The view from the top of Table Mountain is widely considered to be one of the most remarkable views in Africa. There are many routes for you to climb, and it takes about one-and-a-half hours to reach the top if you are fairly fit. There are also cable cars available for those who don’t fancy the long walk, and it only costs R195- return.

The African Dance Theatre

Visit the African Dance Theatre and see a one hour show that is filled with African songs and Zulu dances; all fused together with the beat of drums. This is a must if you are interested in African culture and want to be entertained along the way. The show is made up of four scenes which are explained in the program you get when entering the theatre. Many theatre goers have described the performance they saw as ‘exhilarating’.

Clifton Beach

Clifton has 4 sun kissed beaches, each separated by boulders. The fourth beach is particularly popular with tourists, as the setting is idyllic. If your idea of a perfect holiday is relaxing whilst soaking up the sun until you get a delicious bronze tan, then Clifton Beach is for you.  The beaches are also conveniently placed, as it only takes a 10 minute drive from the city centre to reach any of the four beaches.

Essential Sights of South Africa

South Africa is a beautiful country with stunning scenery, a fascinating history and many things to see and do. So much so, in fact, that many visitors find themselves returning again and again, as there is always something more to experience. For a first time visitor, however, these are some of the most fascinating and essential sights and attractions which you will find within easy reach of our South Africa villas.

Table Mountain

Overlooking the city of Cape Town, Table Mountain is the most prominent landmark of the area, and is a very popular destination for visitors. You can take the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway up to the top – the floors rotate through 360° during the trip to give you a complete panoramic view – or if you’re feeling more energetic you can hike up. You can also go caving and climbing on Table Mountain, and there are tracks which are suitable for mountain biking. The area is incredibly rich in biodiversity, with many rare species of both plant and animal life making it their home.

Knysna Elephants

Just outside of Knysna, a popular town on the Garden Route, the Knysna Elephant Park is home to the world’s most southerly elephants. Here you can not only see the elephants, but interact with them directly – you can get up close to them with a bucket of feed, or even ride on their backs for a tour through stunning scenery. The elephants here have been rescued from culling operations, and a visit to the park will leave you with a new appreciation of these majestic animals.

Durban Golden Mile

The biggest attraction of the beautiful city of Durban is the golden mile – a stretch of perfect sandy beachfront, separated into sections by piers. It’s perfect for families, as it’s a very safe beach – there are lifeguards on duty, and it’s a shark-free zone.

Whether you want to laze on the beach and enjoy the sunshine or get into the water for swimming or surfing, these beaches are ideal.

Apartheid Museum

Whilst it is of course a more sombre experience, a visit to the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg will help you to understand the history that has formed today’s South Africa. The permanent exhibition will take you on an emotional journey that provides an insight into apartheid, and also into the way that South Africa has rebuilt itself to work towards a brighter future.
